About lime plastering
Surrey has a great many period cottages, farm buildings and Victorian houses where gypsum plaster and impermeable coatings cause problems — damp held against the masonry, salts pushing the finish off the wall, and timber lath work breaking down behind it.
Lime plastering is applied in coats over lath or masonry and allowed to cure at its own pace. It is slower work than modern gypsum, and it needs the right conditions, but on the right building it is the finish that lasts and keeps the fabric healthy.
Lime work is only recommended where it genuinely suits the property. If a building is better served by a modern system, that will be said plainly at the quotation stage.
