About ceiling plastering
Ceiling plastering is used to replace tired artex, cover cracked or sagging lath and plaster, finish new plasterboard in extensions and loft conversions, and bring older ceilings back to a flat, modern surface ready for paint.
Overboarding is often the cleanest route for an existing ceiling: new boards are fixed through to the joists, joints are scrimmed and the whole surface is skimmed in a continuous pass so there are no visible seams. Where a ceiling is failing, it can be taken down, the joists checked, and the ceiling reboarded and skimmed from scratch.
Dust sheeting, careful protection of floors and fittings and a proper clear-up afterwards are part of the job — ceiling work is messy by nature and the room should be usable again as soon as the plaster has set.
